Burlybed Universal Pellets are a great choice for any horse owner to use in a stable. They are made from a mix of UK grown wheat and oilseed rape straw which combined create a soft, economical and time saving bedding.

When we make Burlybed Light, our chopped oilseed rape straw bedding and Burlybed Soft Extra, our chopped wheat straw bedding, our bespoke production process shreds and breaks up the raw material. As part of this production process a proportion of the raw material is taken and mixed to create Burlybed Universal Pellets.

Universal Pellets provide excellent absorbency and create a soft and cushioning bed while being economical and time saving to use. They are quick to muck out with very little wastage and are incredibly quick to rot down on the muck heap, quicker than traditional straw and shavings. They can be used as a bedding on their own or in conjunction with other bedding products.

Each pellet is 100% natural and made from UK grown material, processed on the farm so that the very best, natural product makes its way to your horses or ponies stable. Each bag is made from a minimum of 1/3 recycled materials and is fully recyclable.

HOW DO I USE BURLYBED UNIVERSAL PELLETS?

You can use our bedding however suits your horse and your own stable management. For an average 12’x12’ stable we recommend using 5 to 7 bags for a traditional bed and up to 8 for deep litter. When setting up a new bed add half to one full bucket of water per bag allowing the pellets to swell, creating a fluffy and supportive bed. Regularly remove wet and droppings and add additional pellets as required.

Dampen the bed as necessary to maintain an economical bed and healthy environment.

These guidelines are subject to your own personal preference and can vary depending on weather, time of year and type of horse.

FAQ’S

DO I NEED TO WET THE PELLETS TO BEGIN WITH?

We recommend wetting the pellets when setting up an new bed, however they can be used dry. Our guidelines are subject to your own personal preference.

CAN I USE PELLETS WITH OTHER BURLYBED BEDDING PRODUCTS?

Yes, Universal Pellets can be used in conjunction our other beddings.

CAN I USE UNIVERSAL PELLETS FOR MY PETS?

Burlybed Universal Pellets are suitable for poultry, small animals and to be used as cat litter

HOW QUICKLY DOES IT ROT DOWN?

As a natural product, it rots down quicker than shavings and traditional straw and can be spread straight on the land.

IS IT COMPLETELY DUST FREE?

We would never claim to be 100% dust free. All of our bedding is dust extracted. 

CAN THE BAGS BE RECYCLED?

Yes! We choose our packaging to be functional and durable to protect our products while they are our with our stockists and customers but we also consider the environmental impact. We use Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) which in simple terms is exactly the same as a supermarket bag for life. This plastic is 100% recyclable. Our packaging is also made from one third recycled material that would have otherwise been destined for landfill. Many local authorities accept LDPE as part of their  recycling schemes so we always advise our customers to check with their local authority.
