Battles Epsom Salts

For general veterinary use.  Epsom salts are used for horses for both external and internal purposes, including external soaks for swelling, muscle soreness, and hoof care (like abscesses) and internal supplementation to address magnesium deficiency, which can cause nervousness, muscle tremors, and poor condition. They can also act as a laxative to aid gut motility.

External use

Soaks: Use in a warm water soak for hooves to reduce swelling or treat abscesses, as a general bath to soothe sore muscles, or to clean a coat. A common recipe is 50g per 5 liters of warm water.
  • Poultices: Can be used in a poultice to draw out pus or other irritants from a wound or hoof abscess.
Internal uses

Dietary Supplement: To provide supplemental magnesium, which is vital for normal nerve and muscle function.
  • Calming effect: Addresses nervousness, excitability, and muscle tremors that can be caused by a magnesium deficiency.
  • Laxative: Aids gut motility and can be used to help with constipation.
  • Obesity and laminitis: May help reduce obesity and the risk of laminitis in prone horses.
Important considerations

Dosage: Always follow the correct dosage instructions for both internal and external use, as overuse can cause diarrhea or other health problems.
  • Veterinary advice: Consult with a veterinarian before giving any supplement to your horse, especially if they have an existing health condition.
  • Headshaking syndrome: In some cases of headshaking syndrome caused by nerve-related pain, a veterinary professional may administer a concentrated solution intravenously to help manage the condition
