Last year your nominations helped Gilly to win the British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA) Rider Safety Fitter of the Year Award - 🙏 this allowed us to promote the importance of having riding hats and body protectors correctly fitted by a trained professional.

A BETA Rider Safety Fitter (more formally called a BETA Rider Safety Equipment Fitter)...
is someone who has been trained and qualified by the British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA) to correctly fit riding safety gear—mainly helmets (hats) and body protectors.
What does A BETA Rider Safety Fitter actually mean
BETA runs official training and qualifications for people working in tack shops or equestrian centres. As an Award Winning Service our BETA Rider Safety Fitter will cover:
- How safety equipment is designed and tested
- Current safety standards (like BETA Level 3, PAS015, etc.)
- Human anatomy (so they understand how gear should sit on your body)
- Correct fitting techniques for hats and body protectors
Once they complete the course and assessment, they can be recognised as a qualified fitter.

Just a little reminder that prices in our shop are at the RRP and not our online prices. This allows for Barnstaple Equestrian Supplies to offer personal and professional service during your visit to our specialist equestrian safety centre.
- We’re open 6 days per week, so you can walk in.
- But for safety gear fittings, it’s best to ring ahead and ask if a trained fitter is available.
- This avoids waiting and ensures you get proper attention.
